All brands and businesses, big and small, and marketers (literally anyone who hasn’t spent the first half of 2020 under a rock) are taking interest in social media marketing. Celebrities, influencers, bloggers, content creators, online video streaming platforms, national and international brands—- everybody wants their share of attention on social media!
Are you wondering why? We bet, you already know the answer to this one!
It’s because the COVID-19 pandemic has had a tremendous impact on consumer behavior. It has redefined what you’d consider as ‘normal’ in all aspects of life. In the last few months, global social media users have grown to 3.96 Million—- which is more than 10% in the last year. Literally, more than half of the world’s population is actively using social media today!
So, if you want to get it done right, here are a few social media trends to look out for in the second half of 2020 and beyond!
Have you checked out Facebook rooms yet? You probably have noticed this new feature at the top of the Facebook page. Yep, that’s the one. Facebook rooms let you chat with as many as 50 people via Messenger. Probably, Facebook came up with this feature to compete with popular chat services. The good news is: you can use Facebook rooms for marketing purposes. Just be careful not to overdo it. One of the best ways to use it is to invite people within a certain Facebook group that is relevant to your business (that way you’ll be inviting people who are interested in a certain topic) and create a webinar-like environment to educate your audience. To build interest, you can invite an expert or an influencer to participate.
Try out Instagram Reels now, if you haven’t already– Short (15 second) videos are fun, entertaining and good for marketing. With more and more people embracing this form of content; Instagram reels is something to really cash on! Instagram reels have been a favorite with marketers and brand owners for a long time now, but with Tik ToK facing bans and security issues; the importance of reels may climb up a notch. Facebook has a similar feature which is quite efficient in its own way, but its popularity and effectiveness is nowhere near Instagram reels. Also, it may interest you to know that Instagram reels, which has been tested in many countries, was globally launched in August 2020.
How can you miss out on IGTV? If reels are the go-to trend for short videos; IGTV work wonders for longer videos. IGTV is a great way of directing your audience to your videos by giving them a preview of the video on your feed or within a story. IGTV was launched a couple of years ago but it wasn’t being used as extensively as you’d expect. But, guess what, the pandemic has changed that too; now that movies, music and ads are being realized online!
You heard of audio tweets? In June 2020, Twitter announced that it will begin unrolling audio tweets for IOS users. Now, the question is, why do we think that this feature will emerge into something like a trend? We’ll tell you why. Because, everywhere you look, voice technology will become more and more popular. Sending out voice tweets from your phone will make the process much more convenient. And, secondly, you don’t have to stick to character limits and rack your brains to bring out the wordsmith in you to get your message out effectively. You can now record an audio up to 140s, and 2 minutes is quite a long time to speak out your marketing message.
